Organizational behavior and development, community involvement in public safety selection and promotion, change management, and personnel psychology and selection.

Dr. Eric Hutchison joined GMU in the summer of 2021 to teach in the I/O Psychology Department.

Eric is the owner of Hutchison Consulting, a firm specializing in Strategic Planning, Organizational Development, and Employee Assessment, Selection, and Performance. Founded in 2015, his firm works with individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and the public sector.

Eric’s background includes more than 25 years of professional experience and nearly 20 years of teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.  While building a professional career in the financial industry, he led teams responsible for national branding, product development, strategy and distribution, and mergers and acquisitions. While working on his doctorate, Eric’s professional experience expanded to include the design, development, and administration of public safety job analysis and examinations (entry-level and promotional) and the training of community members who participate as community evaluators in a police and fire selection process.

Current Research

Dr. Hutchison has presented his research on community involvement in police officer selection at four international conferences: SPCP Annual Conferences in 2019 and 2021; SIOP Annual Conferences in 2020 and 2021.

Selected Publications

Dr. Hutchison is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Personnel Assessment Decisions, the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology, and Policing: An International Journal.

Education

Dr. Hutchison holds a BBA in Marketing from Kent State University, an MBA from Otterbein University, and an MS and a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Walden University.
